Save Tecumseh

Mount Tecumseh is one of the Crowsnest Pass's most unique outdoor playgrounds. From open alpine bowls to sheltered subalpine forests and ridgelines with sweeping views, it's a place that has drawn our community to ski, hike, and explore together for generations.

For local families, runners, hikers, and backcountry skiers, this trail connects our community to the mountain. The experience includes the journey through the forest, whether you’re heading to the Beehive lookout in the summer, looking for sheltered skiing in the winter, or travelling farther into the alpine to enjoy some of the best terrain in the region.

There is a proposed logging project that is expected to begin imminently, impacting alpine and subalpine terrain above Chinook Lake, including areas adjacent to the Crowsnest Nordic ski trails. Over the past year we have worked with the community and engaged directly with West Fraser and the Forestry office. Together, these efforts have resulted in meaningful changes to the Allison/Tecumseh harvest plan, protecting two-thirds of the Beehive Loop route. We appreciate those changes.

However, West Fraser and the province have told us they cannot offer further forest retention. We’re reaching out to our community as a final effort to secure the remaining connection. Only approximately 10 more hectares of forest retention are needed to close the remaining gap, connecting the Crowsnest Nordic ski trails with the retained forest closer to the alpine.

Whether you live here, have enjoyed these trails, or hope to visit Crowsnest Pass, your voice matters. We encourage you to send a letter to the Minister of Forestry and Parks Todd Loewen, Senior Area Forester Louis Price of the Calgary Forest Area, MLA Chelsea Petrovic, and the Forestry Operations office, via our New/Mode page.

Allison Harvest Plan

This map shows how close we are. Green identifies the planned harvest area, grey shows areas removed from the harvest plan through community engagement, and red identifies the remaining approximately 10 hectares we’re asking to retain to complete the forested connection.
